Brazil's steel industry recorded growth in both production and domestic sales in May 2026, reflecting stronger market activity compared to the same period last year.
Crude steel production reached 2.74 million metric tons in May, up 5.0% year on year. Finished steel production also increased by 4.6% to 2.04 million metric tons.
Domestic steel sales totaled 1.93 million metric tons, representing a 3.8% increase compared to May 2025. Meanwhile, apparent steel consumption rose 8.1% year on year to 2.39 million metric tons.
During the first five months of 2026, Brazil produced 13.73 million metric tons of crude steel, up 2.3% from the same period last year. Domestic sales reached 9.52 million metric tons, while apparent consumption increased 8.4% to 11.57 million metric tons.
The latest figures indicate continued resilience in Brazil's steel sector, supported by stronger domestic demand and stable industrial activity.
