Average freight rates for Brazilian finished steel imports fell in September 2025, according to figures released by COMEX, the country’s foreign trade authority.

The average import freight rate declined to $59 per metric ton, compared to $62 per metric ton in August, reflecting lower shipping costs and balanced trade volumes.

Freight rates by product and origin included:

  • Coated flat products: $59/mt from China, $151/mt from South Korea, $86/mt from Japan, $24/mt from Hong Kong, $21/mt from Germany.

  • Hot rolled coil (HRC): $32/mt from South Korea, $36/mt from Egypt, $93/mt from China.

  • Cold rolled coil (CRC): $60/mt from South Korea, $71/mt from China.

  • Rebars: $56/mt from Russia, $79/mt from China, $38/mt from Egypt.

  • Wire products: $175/mt from China, $41/mt from Egypt, $24/mt from Turkey.

  • Beams: $104/mt from China, $30/mt from Spain.

  • Wire rod: $57/mt from China, $62/mt from Russia, $32/mt from Egypt, $20/mt from Germany.

Imports from China accounted for 52 percent of Brazil’s total finished steel imports in September, up slightly from 51 percent in August.

The reduction in freight costs could support lower import prices, but market analysts warn that currency volatility and global freight adjustments may continue to influence landed steel costs in the coming months.
