Following the usual governmental clearances, ArcelorMittal declared that it had successfully acquired Companhia Siderurgica do Peccm (CSP) in Brazil for an estimated USD 2.2 billion in enterprise value.
CSP is a top-notch business that creates high-quality slab at prices that are comparable around the globe. Its building, which is situated in the northeastern Brazilian state of Ceara, was inaugurated in 2016. It is 10 kilometers away from the factory and has access via conveyors to the Port of Pecem, a sizable, deep-water harbor. It runs a blast furnace with a three million ton capacity.
Significant organizational and financial benefits are provided by the purchase, which also opens the door to future growth that could include the addition of basic steelmaking capacity (including direct reduced iron) as well as rolling and finishing capacity. Given its position, CSP also offers a chance to establish a new center for the production of low-carbon steel, capitalizing on the state of Ceara's desire to build a low-cost, green hydrogen base in Pecem.
