The European Commission has announced the first official Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) certificate price, setting it at €75.36 for the first quarter of 2026.

The pricing is based on the average cost of EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) allowances, ensuring that imported goods face carbon costs equivalent to those borne by EU producers.

Under the current framework:
👉 CBAM prices will be published quarterly throughout 2026
👉 The next price announcement is expected on July 6

Starting in 2027, the system will shift to weekly pricing, aimed at improving market responsiveness and transparency.

Additionally, CBAM certificates will be purchased via a centralized EU platform, in line with Regulation (EU) 2023/956, marking a key step toward a fully operational carbon border system.

The move reinforces the EU’s strategy to:
👉 Prevent carbon leakage
👉 Promote fair competition
👉 Accelerate global decarbonization efforts
