Ahead of the European Council meeting on October 23, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) and the European Steel Association (EUROFER) issued a joint statement urging a realistic path toward industrial decarbonization that preserves competitiveness and jobs.
Together, the two sectors support over 15.5 million European jobs, with the automotive industry being the second-largest steel consumer.
EUROFER President Henrik Adam emphasized that “you cannot build a competitive European car without competitive European steel.”
The groups called on EU leaders to implement policies that align climate goals with industrial strength, safeguard employment, and ensure supply chain resilience for Europe’s manufacturing base.
