GLOBAL PRODUCTION OF STAINLESS STEEL FELL BY 3.5 PERCENT YEAR OVER YEAR IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2022

The first half of 2022 saw a 3.5 percent YoY reduction in stainless steel melt shop output, according to the most recent data from the World Stainless Association (Worldstainless).

China produced 17.26 mln tons of stainless steel in H1 2022, a decrease of 5.3 pct year over year. Stainless steel output in Asia, excluding China and South Korea, increased by 3.1 percent YoY to 3.95 million tons.

Europe's output of stainless steel fell by 5.2 percent year over year to 3.827 million tons. The production of stainless steel in the USA fell 14.7 percent year over year to 1.089 million tons.

Other nations' production of stainless steel (Brazil, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, and Indonesia) grew by 3.3 percent YoY to 4.08 million tons.

Leading stainless steel producers come together to create the World Stainless Association, previously the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF).
