India and the European Union are expected to formally sign their long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in December 2026, with the agreement scheduled to enter into force between February and March 2027, according to India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.

The FTA is expected to significantly strengthen bilateral trade and investment by improving market access for businesses on both sides. The European Union is currently India's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade in goods reaching approximately €120 billion in 2024.

Once implemented, the agreement is expected to reduce trade barriers, simplify customs procedures, and create new opportunities across key sectors including manufacturing, steel, automotive, engineering, and technology.

The deal marks one of India's most significant trade agreements in recent years and is expected to enhance economic cooperation between the two economies.
