The Indian government has formed an advisory committee to propose reforms aimed at raising domestic iron ore production to meet its 2030 steel target of 300 million mt.

The committee, headed by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, includes representatives from ministries, state-owned firms like NMDC and SAIL, and private producers such as Tata Steel and JSW Steel.

  • Mandate: Address regulatory challenges, streamline clearances, and improve coordination between central and state agencies.

  • Projection: India’s iron ore demand is set to grow by 50% by 2030, reaching 425–430 million mt, up from 280 million mt last year.

This initiative highlights New Delhi’s commitment to strengthening raw material security for its growing steel industry.
