India’s KFIL Restarts Solapur Plant Using Alternative Fuels Amid LPG Shortage

India’s Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Limited (KFIL) has resumed operations at its Solapur casting facility after a temporary shutdown caused by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shortages.

The company had halted two high-pressure moulding lines on March 17 due to supply disruptions. However, production has now resumed using alternative fuels such as oxy-acetylene and diesel, allowing operations to stabilize.

The LPG shortage has been linked to global energy supply disruptions driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have affected fuel availability and pricing.

LPG is essential in iron casting processes, particularly for maintaining precise temperature control in high-pressure moulding operations. KFIL stated it is continuing efforts to secure alternative fuel sources to ensure uninterrupted production.
