Steel and aluminum shipments across North America showed mixed performance in December 2025, according to the latest data released by the US Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI).

MSCI reported that US steel shipments declined 1.5% year on year, on a seasonally adjusted basis, while aluminum shipments rose 4.3% compared to December 2024. The data highlights stronger relative demand for aluminum in the US market toward the end of the year.

In Canada, shipment trends were weaker overall. Steel shipments fell 0.4%, while aluminum shipments declined 3.3% year on year during the same period.

MSCI said North American service centers ended the year on an “uneven footing,” reflecting divergent demand patterns across metals and regions, with aluminum outperforming steel in the US but softer conditions persisting in Canada.
