China’s Shougang Jingtang has signed a contract with Germany’s SMS Group to build a continuous galvanizing line (CGL) at its Caofeidian site, with startup scheduled for mid-2027.
The line will add 450,000 mt/year of capacity, producing galvanized strip 0.4–2.3 mm thick, 900–1,900 mm wide, and achieving process speeds of up to 180 meters per minute.
SMS Group will supply engineering, equipment, electrics, automation, and surface quality monitoring systems, with smart sensors and robotics enabling highly automated production. The project will strengthen Shougang’s role in automotive-grade galvanized steel supply.
