In July 2025, Brazilian pig iron export prices hovered at $400–410 per tonne, as the industry retreated amid uncertainty over a proposed 50% U.S. import tariff. Although pig iron ultimately remained exempt from these tariffs—unlike other steel products—the market reaction caused widespread transaction delays and cautious behavior among exporters and buyers.
The U.S. accounts for approximately 88% of Brazil’s pig iron exports—making tariff clarity critical to market confidence and stability.
