According to data released by SECEX, Brazil’s foreign trade authority, the country’s finished steel trade deficit narrowed in September 2025, supported by stronger exports and steady import volumes.
Brazil exported 140,859 metric tons of finished carbon steel worth $104.1 million, while imports totaled 252,822 metric tons valued at $176.3 million. This represents a volume deficit of 111,962 mt, an improvement from 166,905 mt in August.
In terms of product mix, wire rod and hot rolled coil (HRC) accounted for 23 percent each of total exports, followed by cold rolled coil (18 percent) and rebars (14 percent). On the import side, coated flat products made up 47 percent, followed by HRC (31 percent).
The latest figures suggest a moderate improvement in Brazil’s steel trade balance, though the sector continues to face price pressure and uneven demand in both domestic and export markets.
