British Steel is set to recruit over 180 new workers shortly after a UK government intervention saved 2,700 jobs at its Scunthorpe facility. The state stepped in following the company's Chinese owner, Jingye, rejecting a £500 million bailout, leading to emergency legislation passed in a rare Saturday parliamentary session.

Now under ministerial oversight, British Steel plans a recruitment fair for positions at Scunthorpe, Teesside, and Skinningrove. These roles span departments such as legal, environmental chemistry, engineering, stores, labor, and cleaning. Interim CEO Allan Bell emphasized the company’s revitalized focus on enhancing steel production and contributing to the UK economy.

British Steel currently employs over 3,000 people, with most based in Scunthorpe, home to the UK's last remaining virgin steel blast furnace. The company aims to transition to electric arc furnace technology over three years in a £2 billion plan, delaying the early closure of the blast furnace previously announced by Jingye.
