Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) has announced the temporary suspension of its No. 2 blast furnace operations at the Usina Presidente Vargas (UPV) unit. The blast furnace, with an annual crude steel production capacity of 1.5 million metric tons, was idled in response to a decline in steel market demand.

While the company has not disclosed the expected duration of the shutdown, CSN emphasized that its other subsidiaries in Brazil, Germany, and Portugal are continuing operations as usual. The steelmaker has assured stakeholders that it will provide updates on the situation as new developments arise.

This operational adjustment reflects the challenges faced by the steel industry amid fluctuating demand and evolving market conditions. CSN’s proactive approach aims to adapt to the current market realities while ensuring stability across its broader operations.
