Dillinger Group, a leading German steel plate producer, has announced the successful development of new steel grades specifically designed for offshore wind projects. The project, a collaboration with Saarland University, RWTH Aachen University, and other partners, has recently been completed after nearly four years of research.

Funded by the German federal ministry for economic affairs and climate protection, the new steel grades are ideal for monopiles used in offshore wind turbines, offering durability against storms, waves, and saltwater over extended periods. The grades can also be used in submerged arc welding and electron beam welding, which helps reduce production times for manufacturers.

Dr. Peter Maagh, COO of Dillinger, emphasized that these new steel grades will play a significant role in accelerating the adoption of renewable energy in Germany.
