The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has elected Abdulqader Almubarak, CEO of Saudi Iron and Steel Company (Hadeed), as its new chairman for the 2026–2027 term, following elections held on October 13.

Almubarak succeeds Uğur Dalbeler, CEO of Turkey's Çolakoğlu Metalurji, who will serve as vice-chair alongside Tadashi Imai, president and COO of Japan's Nippon Steel Corporation. Meanwhile, Saeed Al Remeithi, group CEO of UAE-based EMSTEEL, has been appointed chair of the Audit Committee.

Worldsteel also announced its new Executive Committee, bringing together senior executives from major global steelmakers, including China Baowu, ArcelorMittal, POSCO Holdings, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Nucor and JFE Steel.

Alongside the leadership appointments, the association welcomed five new members. Bangladesh's Anwar Ispat and China's Hunan Iron and Steel Group joined as regular members.

Three organizations were admitted as affiliated members: Metaluck Global Resources and the Steel Producers Committee from the UAE, and the Uzbekistan Metallurgy Association.

The newly elected leadership will serve a one-year term, with the appointments reflecting continued participation from steel producers and industry organizations across Asia, the Middle East and other major steel markets.
