Spanish steelmaker Hydnum Steel has entered into a green steel supply agreement with Ireland-based Kingspan Group, marking a significant step toward decarbonizing the construction industry, the company announced this week.
Under the agreement, Hydnum Steel will supply green flat steel from its Puertollano plant, which is currently under construction and will have an annual production capacity of 2.7 million metric tons. The volume of steel to be delivered to Kingspan has not been disclosed.
The Puertollano facility, backed by €60 million in funding from Spain’s Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE), is expected to begin production by the end of 2025.
The partnership with Kingspan, a global leader in insulation and building envelope solutions, is aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the construction sector, one of the world’s largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions.
Hydnum’s low-carbon production model and strategic alliances like this one are positioning the company as a key player in Europe’s green steel transition.
