The nodal substation is part of the «energy island» of the enterprise

In July 2024, the Kametstal Iron and Steel Works began reconstruction of the Novodomenna substation using new European equipment. This is stated in the message Metinvest. Media.

This junction substation is part of the «energy island» of the enterprise, providing power to the production of the blast furnace shop and the cooling system of blast furnaces, as well as other main equipment of the metallurgical plant.

The need for reconstruction of the equipment is due to its long-term operation in aggressive conditions due to the proximity of the water tunnel. In addition, it will be placed in a more adapted room for electrical equipment.

As part of the reconstruction, a new 6 kV switchgear (KRP) consisting of 12 cells will be installed in the new building – modern compact equipment of European production, which is immediately equipped with nine vacuum switches with automatic control of the presence of voltage on the cable.

According to the head of the workshop of networks and substations Viktor Bolotov, among the main tasks that solve the energy of the steel plant is the uninterrupted power supply of the main production and the reliability of the» energy island «of the enterprise.

«The radical reconstruction of the Novodomenna substation will provide new opportunities for trouble-free operation of the main consumers of the plant and improve the quality of electricity supply, as well as the level of labor safety of personnel. We carry out the reconstruction without stopping the work of the substation – the scheme has been changed in order to maintain the necessary level of electricity for production and provide conditions for the safe work of contractors, «Bolotov said.

Currently, contractors are performing installation work on the installation of 6 kV KRP at the installation site, which is prepared in advance. Steel structures of the cable route are also mounted to transfer cable lines to connect new cells. The last stage of work will be the dismantling of equipment decommissioned.

As reported earlier, Kametstal carried out a 45-day overhaul of the mixer with relining in the converter workshop. During the works, more than 550 cubic meters were completely replaced of refractory masonry of the mixer body, restored the key equipment, repairs to which are possible only during a complete long-term shutdown of the unit, carried out comprehensive repair and maintenance of the aspiration system.
