South Africa's H1 Base Metal Export Value Surges by 14.5%

Based on data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), South Africa's exports of base metals and articles thereof in June this year reached a total value of ZAR 19.78 billion ($1.10 billion), showing a 5.9 percent decrease compared to May. However, in the January-June period, the export value of base metals and articles thereof surged by 14.5 percent year on year to ZAR 116.8 billion ($6.48 billion).

Regarding imports, in June, South Africa imported base metals and articles thereof worth ZAR 9.4 billion ($521.1 million), indicating a 5.2 percent increase from the previous month. Similarly, during the first six months of the year, imports of these goods rose by 4.6 percent year on year, reaching ZAR 50.75 billion ($2.81 billion), compared to the same period in 2022.
