Spain’s Tubos Reunidos Suspends US Operations Amid 50% Tariffs

Spanish seamless steel tube producer Tubos Reunidos has temporarily suspended operations at its Texas plant, citing challenging market conditions following the 50% US tariffs on steel and aluminum imposed by President Trump.

The US accounts for 45% of the company’s global sales, making the tariffs a major hit to profitability. While the plant will not close permanently, it will operate at minimal capacity until conditions stabilize.

To mitigate the impact, Tubos Reunidos is pursuing contracts in India and Saudi Arabia to diversify revenue and strengthen its global footprint.
