Stegra has started a new financing round to support the construction of its Boden green steel plant in Sweden, set to become the world’s first large-scale fossil-free steel facility.
According to CEO Henrik Henriksson, strong backing from founding and lead investors underlines confidence in Stegra’s business model, cost competitiveness, and execution capabilities.
Key details:
-
The new funding will cover up to 15% of total project costs, combining equity, debt instruments, outsourcing arrangements, and strategic partnerships.
-
The project is over 60% complete, with a three-month timeline extension to incorporate added scope.
-
Funds will support expanded rail and port infrastructure, cover rising material and construction costs, and offset unfulfilled state grants.
Once completed, the Boden project will position Stegra as a leader in Europe’s decarbonized steel industry, integrating renewable power and logistics to enable large-scale fossil-free steel production.
