Tata Steel is accelerating expansion in India, targeting an additional 7 million metric tons per year of steelmaking capacity through investments in existing operations.

The company said it has already reached 25 million tons annual capacity and is focusing on brownfield expansion rather than mergers or acquisitions.

Current growth projects include:

  • Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL)
  • Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL)
  • A newly commissioned electric arc furnace in Ludhiana

Tata Steel has already added 1 million tons/year under current plans.

The move is backed by expectations that India’s steel demand will grow 8–10% annually, driven by government infrastructure spending.

The company also highlighted the importance of carbon pricing mechanisms to maintain export competitiveness, especially in Europe.
