Thailand’s Department of Industrial Works has ordered the closure of BNS Steel Group Co., Ltd., citing multiple legal, operational, and environmental violations.
The company, with annual production capacity of 135,000 metric tons of billets and 65,000 metric tons of reinforcing steel, was found to have operated without properly notifying regulators of its production start.
Authorities also said inspections uncovered:
- Products that failed to meet required industrial standards
- Improper industrial waste management
- Non-compliance with Environmental Impact Assessment requirements
- Violations of permit conditions
Despite previous warnings and suspension orders, the company reportedly continued operating. Its land-use and operating permit had already been revoked in May 2025.
A follow-up inspection in April 2026 found preparations to restart production, violating Thailand’s 2025 ban on new or expanded billet and rebar capacity.
Officials said the shutdown is part of broader efforts to address oversupply and weak capacity utilization in Thailand’s steel sector.
