The United Arab Emirates' finished steel consumption is forecast to reach approximately 8.15 million mt in 2026, supported by major infrastructure projects and continued residential and commercial construction, according to GMK Center.

The construction sector accounts for an estimated 75–80% of the country's steel consumption, making long steel products, particularly rebar and structural sections, central to domestic demand. Large-scale developments, including Dubai South, Palm Jebel Ali and the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, continue to support steel requirements.

Infrastructure investment is also contributing to demand. The Etihad Rail network and ADNOC's Hail and Ghasha gas development require structural steel, heavy plate and specialized steel pipes.

Despite domestic production capacity, the UAE remains dependent on imports for several steel categories, particularly flat products and specialized grades. In 2025, China was the country's largest steel supplier, with shipments valued at approximately $3.4 billion, followed by Oman at $1.26 billion and India at $680 million.

Looking ahead, GMK Center expects UAE finished steel consumption to remain relatively stable at 8.0–8.1 million mt in 2027, supported by ongoing construction and infrastructure investment.
