The UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) is considering narrowing the scope of its antidumping investigation into heavy plate imports from South Korea, following submissions from exporters and UK importers.
The proposal would exclude wide heavy plate measuring 2,500 mm or more in width and at least 6 mm in thickness from the investigation. Stakeholders argued that UK producers lack the technical capacity to manufacture plate wider than 2,100 mm, meaning such imports would not harm domestic production.
Companies including Samsung C&T, alongside UK importers Duferco and Stemco, opposed duties on the wider plate category. The TRA confirmed that commodity codes would remain unchanged if the scope revision proceeds. The investigation was launched in June 2025.
