US CRC imports up 85.2 percent in May

Based on preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheet in May 2023 amounted to 128,463 metric tons, showing a substantial increase of 85.2% compared to April. However, there was a decline of 3.4% when compared to May 2022. In terms of value, the total worth of cold rolled sheet imports (CRC) in May 2023 was $150.8 million, marking a significant rise from $85.6 million in April, but a decrease from $204.7 million in May 2022.

In May, the United States primarily sourced its CRC imports from Canada, importing 42,715 metric tons, which surpassed the figures from both April (38,039 mt) and May 2022 (44,971 mt). Other notable countries that contributed to the US imports of CRC in May included Australia (25,539 mt), Sweden (12,227 mt), South Korea (9,590 mt), and Mexico (8,214 mt).
