The United States has initiated a new trade investigation into potential circumvention of steel duties involving Vietnam and Indonesia.
The US Department of Commerce is examining whether corrosion-resistant steel (CORE) products made in Indonesia using Vietnamese-origin cold rolled steel are bypassing existing antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) measures.
The inquiry follows a petition from major US producers, including Steel Dynamics Inc. and Nucor Corporation.
Current duty levels are significant, with:
- Dumping margins ranging from 87.07% to 162.96%
- Subsidy rates between 0.30% and 257.83%
Authorities will determine whether these products are being used to circumvent trade restrictions on Vietnamese steel, a move that could lead to expanded enforcement measures.
