The new ladle furnace at Arizona MIDA minimill #1 has begun operating, according to CMC Steel, a manufacturer of steel in the United States.

The old ladle-furnace transformer has just been replaced with a Danieli Automation Q-One digital power feeder, allowing production to begin without interruption throughout the commissioning phase.

Furnaces may run at different frequencies thanks to Q-novel One's characteristics. At CMC Steel Arizona, tests have been run with the furnace running at 20 Hz instead of the normal 60 Hz.

As was the case with earlier installations, the use of low frequencies allowed for improved energy performance, a constant power factor of 0.96, and minimal grid disruptions.

A Danieli QLP MIDA infinite casting-rolling minimill with a planned capacity of 350,000 tons per year of high-quality rebar in bundles and spools was provided to CMC Steel Arizona in 2009.

A third Danieli-supplied QLP MIDA minimill, CMC Steel Oklahoma, is being operated by CMC and is scheduled to begin production in 2023.

In North America and Central Europe, CMC is the industry-leading producer of rebar. Additionally, CMC makes wire rod, steel fence posts, and merchant bars.
