Veysel Yayan, secretary general of the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), said that the nation's capacity for rebar, which is roughly 24 million mt, can easily meet the 4 million mt of rebar needed in the upcoming three to four months to rebuild the cities affected by the recent earthquakes.
80,000 mt of steel, or 1% of the nation's total output, is required for container homes, according to Mr. Yayan, who claimed that the Turkish steel industry had a manufacturing capacity of around 18.5 million mt of flat steel.

Yayan said that there was no damage to the seven steel makers' factories in the area and that several of the plants had already begun producing steel, but not at full capacity.
