Vietnam's steel industry recorded higher production and sales during the first five months of 2026, supported by recovering domestic demand and stronger performance in several key product segments.

Crude steel production reached 12.17 million metric tons, increasing 12.8% year on year. Finished steel production totaled 14.30 million metric tons, up 11.8%, while steel sales climbed to 13.44 million metric tons, representing a 10.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

In May alone, finished steel production reached 3.24 million metric tons, rising 15.6% year on year, while steel sales increased 5.4% to 3.04 million metric tons. Hot rolled coil (HRC) remained one of the key growth drivers during the period.

Looking ahead, the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) expects market conditions to remain favorable in the second half of 2026, supported by public investment, infrastructure projects, and continued recovery in domestic steel consumption. However, export activities may continue to face pressure from increasing trade protection measures in several overseas markets.
