Turkish steel producer Hasçelik has officially commissioned its sixth steel plant in Osmaneli, Bilecik province, with a €150 million investment — marking a major step toward green steel production in Turkey.

The opening ceremony, attended by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir, highlighted the plant’s role in advancing Turkey’s decarbonization strategy.

Equipped with horizontal scrap loading systems, electric arc furnaces with magnetic stirring, and reverse osmosis water purification, the facility aims to minimize CO₂ emissions and prepare for EU CBAM regulations.

The Bilecik plant is Turkey’s first to combine scrap preheating with magnetic EAF technology, reducing energy consumption and emissions. It operates entirely on recycled raw materials, supporting the circular economy and targeting industries such as automotive, defense, railway, and aerospace.

The facility will create 225 jobs and strengthen Turkey’s position in special steels.

Minister Kacir noted that Turkey ranks 1st in Europe and 7th globally in steel production, with $12.5 billion in metallurgical exports in the first nine months of 2025. Turkey aims to invest $31 billion in green transformation by 2053, aligning with the national low-carbon steel roadmap.
