Anglo American, a major mining company, and Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, a dependable client, have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on finding innovative ways to decarbonize the steelmaking process.
The partnership will concentrate on cooperative research to hasten the development of high-quality feedstock for the production of lower carbon steel using both conventional blast furnace and direct reduction iron (DRI) steelmaking, the latter of which is a less carbon-intensive method and calls for iron ore of a particularly high quality.
