Cogne Acciai Speciali, one of the leading steel producers in Italy, has announced that all its plants in Europe are using 100 percent renewable electricity since January 2024.

"We are proud to announce that all our products will have zero impact in terms of scope 2 emissions, as requested by regulations," Andy Vuillermin, sales and marketing director at Cogne Acciai Speciali, commented.

Moreover, in 2023 the company had started a project that shows their commitment to sustainability and decarbonization - they aim to produce green hydrogen to fuel a heat treatment furnace at the Aosta plant in order to reduce natural gas utilization and to cut CO2 emissions. The hydrogen will be produced with a hydroelectric plant that uses water from the Dora Baltea River, which flows right next to Cogne's steel plant.

Cogne Acciai Speciali currently owns seven plants, five of which are in Europe - the main one in Aosta, Italy, then Sweden,

Switzerland and the UK - and two overseas, in China and Mexico. As SteelOrbis previously reported, it is also acquiring US-based tube producer Mannesmann Stainless Tubes.
