According to The Guardian, the firm said on April 8 that it will slash 160 positions at a facility in Stocksbridge, South Yorkshire, and 45 jobs in West Bromwich, West Midlands, as it shifted operations to a plant in Rotherham, also in South Yorkshire.

Liberty estimates that an increase in output at Rotherham might result in the creation of 'potentially' 160 new positions, implying that many of the impacted Stocksbridge workers may be able to relocate to the neighboring facility.

The two impacted companies produce specialized alloys for aerospace and energy clients.

The reorganization plan, according to Alun Davies, national officer for Community, a steelworkers' union, "provides some much-needed clarification on the company's goals."

He went on to say that while the union thought Liberty Steel's restructuring plans were "credible," he would resist mandatory layoffs and that if the transaction went through, the corporation should ensure that jobs in the supply chain were secure.
