Swedish green steel producer Stegra has successfully completed a €1.4 billion financing round, securing the capital needed to continue construction of its hydrogen-based steel plant in Boden, Sweden.
The financing round was led by a consortium headed by Wallenberg Investments, with participation from existing investors and continued support from the company's lender group. The transaction also provides Stegra with access to previously arranged debt facilities.
The funding will be used to complete construction of the Boden plant, cover rising project costs, strengthen infrastructure, and support commissioning activities.
The Boden facility is expected to become one of Europe's largest green steel plants, producing steel using green hydrogen instead of coal to significantly reduce carbon emissions.
With the financing now finalized, Stegra will continue accelerating construction while reviewing the project's production timeline.
