Trump Administration Prepares New Tariffs on Steel and Semiconductor Imports

The Trump administration is preparing a new round of tariffs targeting steel and semiconductor chip imports, according to industry sources. The proposal includes initially modest duties that could escalate significantly, with tariffs on semiconductors potentially reaching up to 100 percent.

The policy aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity and reduce reliance on imports. However, exemptions could be granted to foreign companies that commit to investing in US-based production facilities.

Earlier this year, the US doubled steel tariffs to 50 percent, marking a sharp escalation in its protectionist trade measures. Analysts warn that the latest round of tariffs could have major consequences for global supply chains in steel, electronics, and advanced industrial technologies.
