The US produced 1,595,000 net tons of domestic raw steel in the week ending January 7, 2023, with a capacity utilization rate of 71.3 percent, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
When compared to the previous week ending December 31, 2022, when output was 1,602,000 net tons and capability utilization was 71.8 percent, production for the week ending January 7, 2023 is down 0.4 percent.
Production for the week ending January 7, 2022, was 1,735,000 net tons, with a 79.8% utilization of the available capacity. Comparing this week's production to the same period last year, there has been an 8.1% decline.
1,595,000 net tons of adjusted year-to-date output were produced through January 7, 2023, with a 71.3 percent capability utilization rate. When compared to the 1,735,000 net tons produced during the same time previous year, when the capability utilization rate was 79.8%, that represents a decrease of 8.1 percent.
