Slovakia-based US Steel Kosice (USSK), a subsidiary of US Steel, has announced that it has recently restarted the blast furnace No. 2 on stronger demand from customers. The blast furnace was temporarily shut down at the beginning of the quarter in response to weaker demand.

US Steel Kosice expects lower volumes for the second quarter due to the blast furnace shutdown however with the improved demand, average selling prices are expected to be similar to the first quarter.

Meanwhile the company expects adjusted EBITDA in the second quarter of 2024 is expected to reach approximately $425 million for the corporation, which is at the low end of the previous outlook for the second quarter and reflects stable domestic demand for flat-rolled end-use steel despite a dynamic spot steel price environment. The adjusted EBITDA for the European segment, on the other hand, is expected to be lower than the first quarter.
