A press statement from Entergy Arkansas states that the new 250 megawatt AC renewable energy plant's Driver Solar Project has received approval from the Arkansas Public Service Commission.

According to the press release, the construction of the solar farm was done in part to assist U.S. Steel's objectives. It will be located close to U.S. Steel's Big River Steel factory in Osceola.

Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer Richard Fruehauf, Senior Vice President of U.S. Steel, said, "This undertaking with Entergy Arkansas and Lightsource BP serves as an example of the value of collaboration. Driver Solar will assist us in providing our clients with sustainable steel solutions in addition to assisting us in achieving our ambitious sustainability goals. The generated renewable energy will be used to fuel the manufacturing of verdeXTM, our advanced sustainable steel product, which is made at our Big River Works plant using up to 90% recycled steel."

Lightsource BP, a joint venture partnership between Lightsource and British multinational oil and gas firm BP, is the organization in charge of developing the project.

United States Steel Corporation, a market-leading manufacturer of steel with a 22.4 million ton annual raw steelmaking capacity, was established in 1901. U.S. Steel has operations all throughout the United States and in Central Europe, with its headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
