Norwegian green steel developer Blastr Green Steel is reported to be in discussions to acquire Speciality Steel UK (SSUK), a subsidiary of Liberty Steel Group, according to media sources.

Blastr was established to develop a low-carbon, cost-competitive iron and steel value chain in the UK and Europe. Reports indicate the company is considering relocating its holding company from Norway to the UK, though it remains unclear whether this move depends on a successful acquisition.

Following a court ruling last summer, SSUK was placed into compulsory liquidation. The company is the UK’s third-largest steel producer and a key supplier of specialty steel products. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, Arabian Gulf Steel Industries was the most recent bidder for SSUK’s UK operations.

If completed, the acquisition could mark a significant step in revitalizing the UK’s specialty steel sector through green steel investment.
