British Steel's Special Profiles division has installed a GBP 1 million (USD 1.2 million) state-of-the-art laser measurement equipment, which is part of a suite of patented technologies currently being developed. The new system, which produces millions of dimensional readings on every rolled bar, will ensure that items are manufactured to industry-leading dimensional tolerances.
Skinningrove's mill produces profiles for a variety of demanding applications, including track shoes, forklift masts, and cutting-edge profiles.
Zumbach supplied the measurement system, which uses the latest laser technology, and it was adapted on site at Skinningrove to provide a bespoke solution for the mill.
This comes after British Steel said that it has submitted a planning application for a GBP 26 million (USD 32 million) improvement to its Special Profiles division.
Skinningrove's plans for a new service facility, which include cut-to-length lines, product milling, machining, and storage, would allow the company to produce and process a wider range of value-added profiles for the forklift industry.
