Danieli Morgardshammar Guide Systems was chosen by British Steel to provide intelligent guides for a 4-strand wire rod mill facility in Scunthorpe, England.

One million tons of 5.5 to 17 mm-dia rounds, produced by the factory, which runs a Danieli breakdown mill, are produced annually for use in bridge cables, suspension and valve springs, tire cord, and other automotive applications.

British Steel is investing in a variety of "Intelligent Guide Products," according to Ian Simpson, Area Manufacturing Manager of the wire rod mill. He anticipates increases in productivity, quality, specifications, groove life optimization, and, of course, safety.

The Danieli pre finishing module (PFM) stands #11 and #13 will have RX25 guides installed before them. The guide manages and regulates dimensional fluctuations in stock, reducing roller wear, extending bearing lifespan, lowering maintenance, and extending mill service intervals through dynamic force management and self-adapting roller orientation.

On PFM stand #15, WSG30 guides with Bearing Monitoring System (BMS) will be installed. The decision to employ two motors to independently regulate and adjust the position of the left or right roller holders was made in this series of guides for high-speed plants in order to achieve extremely tight product tolerances and outstanding surface quality.
