The Canadian government has introduced new tariff relief measures on select US and Chinese steel and aluminum imports, aimed at supporting industries affected by ongoing trade tensions.
The update to the 2024 Surtax Remission Order grants exemptions for non-domestically produced Chinese steel varieties and specific US imports tied to public health, national security, and manufacturing sectors.
Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said the policy was designed to assist downstream industries facing “exceptional circumstances” while maintaining supply chain continuity.
