China has filed a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Canada’s recently imposed restrictions on steel imports. In July, Canada introduced a 25 percent duty on products containing Chinese steel.
Beijing claims the measures represent a “classic example of unilateralism and trade protectionism” and violate WTO principles. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce urged Ottawa to remove the restrictions and reaffirm its commitment to multilateral trade stability.
The dispute underscores growing tensions in the global steel market, where major producers are increasingly resorting to trade defense measures.
