The Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) has begun a comprehensive two-year review of its Steel Climate Standard, a key global benchmark for measuring and reporting carbon emissions in the steel industry.
Originally introduced in August 2023, the framework has been used for independently verified emissions certification across the sector.
The review will focus on:
- Emissions measurement methodologies
- Certification requirements
- Decarbonization target-setting approaches
- Alignment with global frameworks such as the Paris Agreement
GSCC said certified members have collectively reduced nearly 3 million metric tons of CO2-equivalent emissions since the standard was introduced.
The updated framework is expected to improve credibility, transparency, and consistency as the steel industry accelerates its low-carbon transition.
