The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lowered its global growth outlook for 2026, citing intensifying geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions, and market volatility.

In its April 2026 World Economic Outlook, the IMF forecasts:

  • Global GDP growth at 3.1% in 2026
  • A modest recovery to 3.2% in 2027

The IMF warned that risks are now tilted toward:

  • Lower growth
  • Higher inflation
  • Weaker global trade activity

Major Economy Forecasts

  • US: 2.3% in 2026, 2.1% in 2027
  • Euro Area: 0.9% in 2026, 1.0% in 2027
  • China: 4.4% in 2026, 4.0% in 2027
  • India: 6.5% in both 2026 and 2027

The report also highlighted higher energy prices, tight financial conditions, and debt vulnerabilities as ongoing threats to the global economy.
