Jindal Steel Sohar has achieved a new monthly steel production record at its Oman facility, according to Italian plantmaker Danieli Technologies.
The plant produced 235,112 metric tons of liquid steel in a single month, pushing its annualized production capacity above 2.5 million mt. Danieli attributed the milestone to a recent technological upgrade of the plant’s 220-ton electric arc furnace, originally supplied in 2014.
A key factor behind the performance was the integration of Danieli’s Q-MELT adaptive process control system, which optimized furnace operations and delivered an equipment availability rate of 96.5%, even after accounting for scheduled shutdowns and process delays.
The furnace is currently operated with an optimized metallic charge mix of 61% hot DRI, 37% cold DRI, and 2% HBI. Under these conditions, productivity reached 324 mt per hour, while maintaining a specific electricity consumption of 493 kWh per metric ton, highlighting both efficiency and operational stability.
