Kazakhstan and China are moving forward with plans to construct a $1.2 billion steel plant with an annual capacity of up to 3 million tons, as part of efforts to expand industrial production and attract foreign investment.

The project, developed in cooperation with Fujian Hengwang Investment, was discussed during a visit by Kazakhstan’s Trade Minister Arman Shakkaliyev to China.

According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Construction, the facility is expected to:
👉 Create approximately 2,500 jobs
👉 Utilize domestic raw materials such as iron ore and natural gas
👉 Serve both local demand and export markets

The first phase is scheduled for completion by 2027, with an initial capacity of 1 million tons, producing a range of steel products including rebar, wire, and structural steel.

The project reflects Kazakhstan’s broader strategy to strengthen its industrial base and increase value-added production.
