Due to a slowdown in the building industry, Kenya's imports of steel decreased by 20% in the second quarter of the year.

According to the most recent Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) statistics, the amount of iron and steel imported fell to 225,126 tons in the reviewed period from 282,132 tons in the same quarter of 2021.

During the first quarter, prices for some steel goods in Kenya increased by 40% as a result of a shortage sparked by supply concerns about Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the volatility of the Kenyan dollar.
